Travel sketches

Sketching when I’m on the road forces me to slow down and look really carefully at my surroundings. I spend anywhere from ten minutes to an hour when I sketch on location, giving me lots of time to absorb visual details, sounds, smells, and watch what people are doing around me. This helps me form deeper, more vivid memories.

Sketching in public brings another benefit: it’s a natural way to meet people, who are curious about me and stop to watch me sketch. The conversations that ensue lead me to a better understanding of the place I am visiting.
